27 February 2020: How working in criminal defence gives vulnerable people a voice

27 February 2020

Chloe Jay is a Criminal Defence Solicitor and Solicitor Advocate based in Winchester. In this interview Chloe tells us how she chose to work in the criminal justice system to give vulnerable people a voice, how she juggles the role with being a working mum and how she feels that the strength of the justice system is the dedicated and professional people working in it.

Chloe represents the area of defence on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Criminal Justice Board, joining partners from across policing, CPS, probation, the prison service and youth offending to work together to improve outcomes both for victims of crime and people who offend.

Chloe also offers useful advice for women wanting to work in defence roles, and the wider criminal justice system.  If you’re considering a career in this field, it’s a useful and interesting watch.

This interview was filmed as part of the First 100 years celebration, of women working in the criminal justice system.
