Fabulous at Fit Fest 2016
14 November 2016
The Youth Commission attended their third Fit Fest recently. The event aims to empower and encourage young people to look after their physical, emotional and mental health through their mantra: Get Fit, Get Healthy. Get Happy!
Exercise and physical activity is important and we need to encourage and inspire young people to take part in both as it’s good for their general health and well-being, enables a better night’s sleep, builds confidence and helps them to socialise better and make contacts and friends. The event has an array of stalls showcasing some great services on offer to young people, as well as arts and coping strategies workshops, sports, and this year they were able to experience the thrill of handling creepy crawlies!
An estimated 150 young people attended this year’s event and members of the Youth Commission engaged with 123 of them. They were very impressed with some of the thoughtful and inspiring information given by the young attendees and took part in some interesting discussions with teachers and made great links with partners.
Organisers, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for Hampshire, listened to lots of stories and concerns raised by various people about how young people today are struggling to manage, which highlights that these kinds of awareness events are vital and as the Youth Commission have prioritised mental health this year it was something they were really pleased to be a part of.
