Portsmouth 2021-22
The Police and Crime Commissioner secured £423,851 from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund in addition to 20% matched funding. This money will be used to invest in crime prevention measures within the Paradise/Arundel Street area in the Charles Dickens ward.
The Safer Streets Fund will fund a range of proposals that will contribute to Portsmouth being a safer place to live, work and visit. The project has a challenging completion target date of 31 March 2022. Work has been underway with a range of local partners to develop detailed plans and work is proposed to take place in the following key locations currently experiencing high rates of crime:
- Paradise Street
- Craswell Street
- April Square
- Arundel Street (including Arundel Park)
- Lake Road (including the underpass)
- Railway View
The proposed measures include:
- Improved fencing and gating in residential areas.
- Improved street lighting.
- Improved CCTV coverage.
- General environmental improvements and maintenance to improve safety.
- General improvements to the area for the benefit of the local community.
The work will be carried out in partnership with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire, Portsmouth City Council, Safer Portsmouth Partnership and other important community partners in line with Council planning and other regulatory processes.
