Youth commission share in Mental Wealth event in Southampton
30 January 2017
Our Youth Commission were invited to take part in a Mental Wealth event today in Southampton at the Third Age Centre, a local community venue.
One of the Youth Commission’s priorities this year has been mental health and over the course of last year members have been invited to many events to talk to young people about mental health.
The Commission was invited by PSCO Dalian from Southampton police who was a member of the original Youth Commission to take part in the day and to share a young person’s view on mental health. The members took the lethal highs board games (versions of Monopoly and Snakes & Ladders) to play with some of the guests. There was lots of interest in the games and people also filled out the ‘brains’ with comments on reducing the stigma with comments such as: “Kind words are like honey” and “Don’t judge those who are different from you”. The stress balls shaped like light bulbs were also very popular!
