06 May 2023
The Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, has joined the rest of the nation and countries around the world in celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.
King Charles III ascended the throne when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died on 8 September 2022. Coronations have been taking place at Westminster Abbey since 1066.
PCC Donna Jones said: “The Coronation of a new Sovereign is a historic moment in the life of our nation. This is the first Coronation to take place in 70 years and the event is steeped in hundreds of years of tradition and pageantry.
“It’s a time for celebration and bringing communities together, and we are marking the occasion in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with street parties and other special events.
“Many people here in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight proudly serve the Monarch including the police, the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force, and we join the rest of the nation in celebrating this special moment.”
