New police stations and front counters

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones is committed to increasing police visibility. In September 2023, the Commissioner announced her plans to open 10 more police stations and front counters to the public, making Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary more accessible to the public.  

The Commissioner’s announcement is part of her plan to transform the police estate and its buildings. She is one of only a handful of Commissioners in the country who has full control of police buildings which is why she is determined to make changes to deliver the police service the public expect.  

Every decision the Commissioner makes about police stations is about fulfilling her top three priorities  

• Delivering the best possible service to the public  

• Delivering value for money for tax-payers  

• Providing the best possible environment for police officers and staff to be able to do their job

Police station and front counter updates 

Cowes Police Station – Isle of Wight  

Cowes Police Station on the Isle of Wight was opened in January 2024. Primarily a base for local neighbourhood teams, the station sits in the town centre to provide the best possible access to residents. Cowes is a new site which the Commissioner purchased. Whilst it does not have a permanent front counter, the Neighbourhood Policing Team often open its doors to welcome the public at certain times throughout the week. Portsmouth Central Police Station  

The Commissioner reopened Portsmouth Central Police Station to the public in March 2024. Whilst police officers and staff have always used it as a base, it closed its doors to the public in 2019. Five years later the Commissioner had the reception refurbished and installed a front counter. A variety of police teams work from the station. The station is open six days a week.

Park Gate Police Station  

The Commissioner re-opened Park Gate Police Station in March 2024 after it had been closed to the public for 10 years. A variety of police teams work from the station. Park Gate Police Station is open to the public three days a week.

Cosham Police and Fire Station  

Cosham Police Station is jointly located with Cosham Fire Station. Police officers and staff began to work at the new site in September 2024. The teams have moved from the Eastern Investigation Centre on Airport Service Road and Medina House.  

Whilst this particular station will not be able to the public, the new station will bring more police visibility back into the north of Portsmouth. The Commissioner’s ambition to ensure residents have a publicly accessible police station means she is now focused on re-opening the old Cosham Police Station on Wayte Street with a front counter.

Totton Front Counter  

Totton Police Station is currently being refurbished and is due to open in September 2024. This page will be updated when the building is complete and ready to open.

Ryde Front Counter   

Ryde Police Station is currently being refurbished and is due to open in October 2024. This page will be updated when the building is complete and ready to open.

Yateley Front Counter  

Yateley Police Station is currently being refurbished and is due to open in November 2024. This page will be updated when the building is complete and ready to open.

Petersfield Police Station  

Petersfield Police Station will be a band new station and is due to open in late spring 2025. The Commissioner purchased the old Barclay’s bank in The Square and work starts to renovate the building in August 2024. The station will be open to the public and a variety of police teams will work from the building including neighbourhood teams. It will also have a front counter. More information on the development of the station will be released by the Commissioner throughout the renovation period.

Gosport Police Station  

Gosport Police Station on South Street will be completely renovated. The station was closed in 2016 and requires a significant amount of work to bring it back to life. This is an important project for the Commissioner. Initial scoping work is underway and this page will feature regular updates on the project as it progresses.

Eastleigh Police Station  

The Commissioner is committed to buying a new police station for Eastleigh residents in the town centre. The PCC is currently looking for an appropriate building to renovate, ensuring it is accessible and delivers value for money for the public.
