Public invited to attend reopening of Ryde police station

18 September 2024

The Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, has announced that Ryde police station on the Isle of Wight will reopen to the public next month.

The public are welcome to attend the official opening on Friday 25 October 2024 from 11am at the police base on Station Street.

It is the latest police station to be opened by the Commissioner following her pledge to ensure residents feel connected to their police force once more.

Ryde police station will have a brand new front counter to welcome the public and it will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 3pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 2:30pm.

The reopening of Ryde reaffirms the Commissioner’s promise to ensure the Island has three publicly accessible police stations. Newport police station remains open to the public every day, whilst the new Cowes police station is open to the public for drop-ins and pre-arranged appointments.

PCC Donna Jones said: “I am delighted the public will be able to access Ryde police station once more. People have consistently told me they want to be better connected to their police force. This is something they expect and rightly deserve.

“Ryde police station closed to the public in 2014. Whilst police officers and staff have continued to work in the building and in the community, the public were not able to visit for routine inquiries or services. A decade later I’m delighted to reopen the station and declare Hampshire and Isle Wight Constabulary open for business.

“This time last year, I announced my plans to open up the police service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Fast forward 12 months later, the plans are right on track.

“The opening ceremony of Ryde police station will be held on 25 October and I’d be delighted for the local community to come along and celebrate.”
