For two years young people consulted through the Youth Commission’s Big Conversation have said that Mental Health is their biggest concern.
To tackle this the Youth Commission focused on two key areas – reducing the stigma that still surrounds mental health and ensuring young people know what support is available and how to access it.
Draw a line through Stigma
To encourage young people to get talking, and drawing about Mental Health, the Youth Commission ran a competition that asked anyone aged up to 25 years old to design a postcard that shows what mental health meant to them.
The Youth Commission, Hampshire CAMHS and the Police and Crime Commissioner judged the shortlisted entries and the winning postcards are:
In the 11-25 year old category postcard by Niamh Buckell Year 9 from Mountbatten School;
and in the under 11 year old category postcard by Thea aged 9.
Postcards in this poster were shortlisted as finalists in the ‘Draw a line through stigma’ competition – congratulations to all our finalists!
Please download this poster and use it as a tool to raise awareness of mental health and promote conversation so that we can draw a line through the stigma of discussing our feelings.
Support available for young people
Youth Commission members have worked with Hampshire CAMHS to produce posters that help young people know where to turn to access support.
The posters can be downloaded here:
In addition an A-Z guide has been created with Hampshire CAMHS to help primary school pupils to look after their mental health and build resilience – look out for extracts on our Twitter and Facebook page
