Commissioner rolls out online safety resources to all schools to help pupils stay safe online while learning at home
02 June 2020
While some pupils are back at school from this week, learning at home remains for many. The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Cyber Ambassador Scheme is offering access to online safety activities to all schools, not just scheme members, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is to ensure children, young people and their families have the support they need during a time when they may be spending even more time on screens.
The Commissioner’s Cyber Ambassador Scheme is a peer-led initiative currently supporting Cyber education in over 100 schools across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton.
The scheme, designed to keep young people and families safer online, has been adapted to meet the needs of schools and families in the COVID-19 pandemic and can now be accessed by all schools and youth organisations in a variety of ways:
- Direct emails from the Cyber Ambassador scheme co-ordinator with essential information for teachers, students and parents/guardians. There are updates, engagement with children and young people and includes sharing online safety messages from Cyber Ambassadors and responding to issues arising due to the current situation, for example scams, gaming and daily online safety advice.
- The new Cyber Ambassadors’ Twitter feed, where top tips, ideas and fun activities are shared
- On the dedicated Coronavirus webpage
- Via TikTok @ca_scheme for their digital check-up and tips
Visit the Cyber Ambassador page to find out more about the scheme.
