Independent Sexual Violence Advisor Service

The Independent Sexual Violence Advisor Service (ISVA) is an all-age service for children, young people and adults, providing practical/emotional support and advice to those who have experienced rape, sexual abuse, assault, violence or sexual exploitation at any point in their lives, irrespective of whether they have reported to the police.

The benefit of the ISVA is to provide ongoing continuity, advocacy and impartial advice and information to a victim/survivor of sexual violence. ISVAs provide impartial information about available options, such as reporting to the police if they would like to do so and providing support throughout the criminal justice process, accessing Sexual Assault Referral Centre services, and specialist support such as pre-trial therapy and sexual violence counselling. ISVAs also provide information on other services that may be required, for example in relation to health and social care, housing, or benefits.

The ISVA role is distinct from that of an Independent Domestic Violence Adviser (IDVA), crisis worker, counsellor and support worker.  An ISVA may support all victims of sexual abuse but there may be specialist ISVAs to support specific need for example gender specific, children, young people, families.  This service sits alongside other commissioned service providers for sexual crime which includes, but not limited to, the Frankie Worker Service/Sexual Crime Therapeutic Service, Victim Care Service and the Sexual Assault Referral Centre.  There are 2 ISVA Services.  Hampton Trust provide the Isle of Wight ISVA Service and Yellow Door provide the Hampshire ISVA Service.

Op Olympos – support for sub-postmasters

The Post Office Horizon scandal is regarded as the most widespread miscarriage of justice in British legal history. It involved the wrongful prosecution of more than 700 sub-postmasters (SPMs) between 2001 and 2017. A joint national policing investigation has been set up between the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and the Metropolitan Police Service, with involvement from all UK police forces.
